About
the IHM Family Homepage... Like all IHM web
pages, the IHM Family Homepage is optimized for 1024 x 768 screen
resolution. I created the IHM
Family Homepage to help guide IHM students toward safe (and mostly
educational) web sites while they enjoy their summer break. Essentially, it is an assortment of easy to
use icon links to websites that should appeal to web surfers from ages 2 to
88. I created a similar homepage for
my daughters so that they would be able to independently surf a variety of
safe websites at a young age. I liked
the idea of making “favorites” only a single click away enough that I added
icon links to sites that my wife and I frequent. The IHM Family Homepage is basically the
homepage that I run on my home computers, minus my specific interests. The IHM Family
Homepage will probably load slowly from our server. I recommend saving it directly to your
computer’s hard drive, opening it with your browser (from the hard drive),
and then setting it as your home page.
This should provide a very fast opening browser and home page
since no Internet data will need to be downloaded every time you open your
browser. Students, ask permission from
your parents before doing this! Older students and
parents; You may even want to modify the page and make your own
customized version. To do this: Save the page to your computer’s hard drive and open it with
MS Word. Change the background and
delete the icon-hyperlinks that you don’t want. Use clip art for icon hyperlinks
(right-click-copy pictures) or make your own icons by taking a screen shot of
a desired site (Print Screen on your keyboard), then paste, trim and
re-cut your icons in MS Paint. * Since the release of
Internet Explorer 7 and MS Vista, homepages running off of a computer’s C
drive have many strange anomalies.
Clicking a link opens the page in two tabs and in a new window. Because of this and other issues with IE-7,
I now use Mozilla Firefox on my home Vista PC. My older XP machine runs IE-7 without these
problems. Mr. Hall |
