Scott was born in Akron, Ohio on
October 6, 1967.
He grew up in Cuyahoga Falls
with his parents and his brother Jeff Craghan. He
went to Cuyahoga Falls High
School and graduated in 1986.
Scott didn’t like school that much and was an average student at Cuyahoga Falls High
School. He likes riding bikes, camping, flying airplanes, and he loves to
be outside as much as possible. He enlisted into the Air Force his senior
year and left for basic training in Lockland, Texas
after he had graduated. He wanted to become a pilot and serve his county ever
since he was in 3rd grade. He was trained to be in a civil engineering
unit and worked on pluming, heating, construction, and driving heavy
equipment. There were many close friends he had who were easy to make because
they all were away from home for the first time. He thought the food there
was ok, but on holidays they had great food to eat like steak or pizza. He
had to march two miles to school at 5:00am
and had physical training after school which lasted until 5:00pm.
He didn’t have that much free time, but when he did he would study or go to a
pizza shop with his friends. He would fly one of the C-130’s or a commercial
airliner that was stationed at his base to the war zone.
He was stationed in Ali Al Salem Air Base outside of Kuwait with around 1000 crew
members. He flew a C-130
Hercules and was responsible for tactical airlift of vital troops and
supplies into Iraq
and Afghanistan.
There were multiple shots fired at him, but mostly by small arms fire, RPG’s, rockets,
and shoulder launched missiles. There were many battles that Scott was in but
most of them were all for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring
Freedom. He lived in tents or trailers while he was at his base. The weather
in Iraq
when he was down there was around 140 degree’s. There were many terrible
things that he saw but some of the most impressive things were Saddam
Hussein’s Palace and the sights in Kuwait.
Scott met John Elway and Robin Williams at a
concert they had while he was stationed in boot camp. He has a rank of Major
and still can get a higher rank. Some
medals he has are the Global War on Terrorism, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring
Freedom, and five air medals. Scott
flew home in a C-130 from Qatar to
Greece to
Germany to
Azores and then home in July of
2005. Scott is still in the Army and might be going back to Iraq
soon. He works for Southwest Airlines and he lives to spend time with his
friends and family. He likes to hang out with his friends and his brother
whom he rides bikes with and camps with. He still talks to some of his
friends from the Army and hangs out with some of them too.
