After he was married he was drafted into the war.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 20 1944 in Ft Benn, Harrison, Ind. He was a U.S. citizen. The war had been going on just a little while before he was drafted. During his training he was trained to go and fight and translate for the soldiers. He could speak six different languages, and that really helped the soldiers understand what some of the people were even talking about. He never went to high school or collage, but had 7 years of grade school.  When he entered the War he had brown eyes, black hair, height 5 feet 7 ˝, his weight was 164 pounds. He was in the army for one year eight months and twenty-six days. His traveling fee was $19.50.  The total of every thing was $141.10. He made lots of friends in the war. While he was in the war he was shot, but he recovered. He was standing next to a priest and the priest got shot. Stephen took the cross that was hanging on his neck and brought it back with him, and gave it to his son Robert.  Robert got older and he and his wife moved into an apartment (after all of the children moved out) his wife had lost one of her legs before they moved into this new apartment. They came over to his son’s house every Christmas and had Christmas with his son and their children and their children.  He had many grand children and great-grandchildren.

He loved to have his great- grandchildren over.  One day when he had his grand children over he was giving these small red what he thought was candy, but the grand children asked him are you sure that this is candy? He told that he wasn’t sure but, to him it tastes like candy. After the children left his wife some and she realized that it wasn’t candy at all it was strawberry cough drops.  When they to old to live by themselves they moved a place where they could live on their, but daily a nurse would come in and check to make sure that everything was ok.  When they lived their, he would cook for them and they would sit down together and play cards. Some times the great –grand children would come and they would sing Christmas carols to them just to be a nice loving family.  He passed away on Friday, July 21, 2000 at the Akron City Hospital. Mr. Nervo was 89 years old when he died.
