Music class is always a very fun class. The teacher of this class is Mrs. Gold, who was new to IHM this year. Every grade goes to music twice a week to learn everything about music- the notes, the different composers, and, of course, to sing. They also practice some of the songs that are going to be sung in Church that Friday. Sometimes a class will be singing a song for just their class during Mass, and she will teach them the song and guide them through it. Sometimes there will be a person doing a solo, and they will learn it from her. She also teaches the songs to the cantors at Friday mass, and teaches the new cantors. Most of the people who go to this class love it. Mrs. Gold asked her students what they like most about her class. They gave many different reasons why they love it. Some like to learn songs for church. Many students say it is good to get away from the academics. Some think it is nice and energetic. Others enjoy it because it's fun, and if the class is fun, the students will understand it better. It especially helps the people who play instruments or take band because they will know what all of the basics of music are and will not have to learn all that from whoever their teacher is. This is what each class is learning or will learn this year in music:

8th Grade- In May, the eighth grade was learning about music theory, which is studying the notes and rests and chords and basically music itself. They are doing a huge work packet on this and they are going to take a test on it soon.

7th Grade- In May, the seventh grade was also learning about music theory. They are also learning a song that they are going to take a test on.

6th Grade- In May, the sixth grade was learning about music through the centuries- all the composers, instruments and styles of music throughout the years. They had just finished writing a melody.

5th Grade- In May, the fifth grade was learning how to count rhythm. They were also doing a fun activity where Mrs. Gold would play a note for them on the piano and they would guess what the note was.

4th Grade- In May and even before that, the fourth grade has been learning to play songs on the recorder. This is in preparation for band, which they can begin in fifth grade. They will continue for the rest of the year.

3rd Grade- In May, the third grade was learning to play the bells. This was in preparation to play the recorder in fourth grade.

2nd Grade- In May, second grade was learning about the notes on the Treble Clef, which is one of the staffs in music.

1st Grade- May, the first grade was learning how to count beats in a measure.

Kindergarten- In May, Kindergarten was learning about keeping the beat, which is moving in time to music, and learning how to know the difference between two beat and three beat rhythms.
