The 7th and 8th graders have been working since December on the play, “Annie Jr.” This play is about a little orphan named Annie. Annie is determined to find her parents. She runs away and gets caught and brought back to the orphanage, run by Miss Hannigan. Then Oliver Warbucks wants to have an orphan spend Christmas with him. So he sends his secretary, Grace, to go find an orphan for him. She finds Annie and brings her to the mansion. Mr. Warbucks is so touched with Annie that he decides to adopt her after a long, unsuccessful search for her parents. Then Miss Hannigan and her brother, Rooster, decide to trick Mr. Warbucks and say that they were Annie’s parents. So Rooster’s girlfriend, Lily, decided to do the job of playing the mom so Hannigan could watch the orphans at the orphanage. Since Mr. Warbucks had offered a $50,000 reward to anyone who proved to be Annie’s parents Hannigan, Rooster, and Lily decided that the money would be a three-way split. Well, they didn’t make it and Warbucks ends up adopting Annie.

Our production of Annie Jr. was a huge success. The actors and actresses seemed to have a lot of fun putting on the production, even though it was a lot of hard work and extra effort. Some parents have said that it was an awesome show and that it is great that the students are required to be in a musical in Jr. High. The teachers have put 110% effort into making this production possible.

How the play “Annie” was chosen was that Mrs. Depew and Mrs. “Y” picked it from different recommendations from other schools and availability of parts.

Miss Ward said that she liked working with the students, but not always.  She guessed that when the kids were in bigger groups some of them didn’t like to cooperate and listen. But she liked to see the creative and side she hadn’t seen of them before come to life.

Miss Ward said, hesitantly, yes that she would like to do another play, but not a play as complex as “Annie”.
