Mrs. Roush 2B

The second grade teachers are Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Roush. Mrs. Jacobs teaches 2A and Mrs. Roush teaches 2B. The second grade has received the sacraments of First Communion and Reconciliation this year. The second grade students are learning many interesting things in all their subjects. They have many exciting field trips and parties coming up also. The second graders said that second grade is the best grade so far.

In religion class, the students learned everything about Reconciliation, First Communion, and the Mass. They first learned about Reconciliation. The students received this sacrament on Saturday February 19, 2005. The students were very excited to receive this sacrament. When second graders learn about First Communion, they always have Jesus day. Jesus Day is when the students learn how to make the wine, learn about the pumpkin story; they paint a candle, and make bread. The students get to taste the wine and the host. When they learn about the pumpkin story they get to plant a pumpkin seed. Jesus Day was on Saturday, April 23, 2005. Weeks later they received their First Communion, which they were extremely excited about. The First Communion was on Sunday, May 15, 2005. During the ceremony, the second graders sang a song called “Celebration.”  Monday, May 16, the second graders got a day off of school for receiving their First Communion.

In math class, the students are learning how to add and subtract three digit numbers. The children like to add and subtract the numbers. Maria said that she enjoys learning it because it is easy to do.

In social studies class, the second graders were just learning about the president, the mayor, and the governor. They had to make poster on them. On the poster, they put the president’s, the mayor’s, and the governor’s faces. If you asked them who the president, the mayor, and the governor are, they would know their names. Now in the class they are learning about Thanksgiving, Presidents Day, Labor Day, and Memorial Day. The students just had to make a poster on Thanksgiving. They put a turkey and what they appreciated the most on the poster. All the students enjoyed making both of the posters.

In reading class, the children are reading a book called “Chrysanthemum.” The book is about a mouse with the name of Chrysanthemum, and everyone always made fun of the name. She ended up not liking her name after that. Throughout the whole year, the second graders read many books.

In science class, the second graders are learning about sound, electricity, and matter. When they are learning this, they do many experiments. The students have a lot of fun during science class.

During spelling class, the second graders have to learn how to spell certain words. They call these words “sight words.” To make it easier to learn how to spell these certain words, they now play bingo with the words. They do this every day now.

During health class, the students are learning about safety. They learned what to do in case of a fire. They are also learning about allergies.

Overall, the second graders have had a busy year, learned a lot, and had a lot of fun!
