There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer at Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Those important parent volunteers keep our school going.  Having volunteers saves and makes money for our school so that the students can be better educated.  It also allows parents to spend time with their children and see what they are doing at school.  They are very significant to IHM.

There are many volunteer opportunities that allow parents to be with their children.  One is kindergarten journal writing.  This permits the kindergarten parents to be with their children.  It also makes it available for parents to meet their children’s friends.  They get to learn about what is on their child’s mind by helping them write down their ideas.  An added volunteering job for parents is assisting Mrs. Rosen in the library.  This helps to keep the library orderly and puts less hassle on Mrs. Rosen.  These parents also get to see what their children are reading.  One more job is helping on Grandparent’s Day.  Helping on this day lets parents see their children interact with their grandparents.  Parents can also be a room mom.  This is when parents organize parties for their child’s classroom.  They also get to be a part of the party by playing games with the children of the classroom or by passing out food and refreshments.  Another option is being a lunch mom, or a mother monitor.  For this job, parents monitor the classes during lunch and recess.  This lets parents to watch their children have fun during lunch and recess.  Parents can also spend time with their children by volunteering on field trips.  This job lets parents spend a lot of time with their children.  Parents can have fun with their child and meet their child’s friends.  Parents can find out what their child does at school by volunteering for these various jobs.

There are also many volunteer opportunities that deal with just the school.  One of them is helping out with the uniform sales.  Because of this, other parents don’t have to pay full price for school uniforms.  A different job is helping out with the bake sales.  There are actually two different jobs for the bake sale.  First, there are parents that bake the sweets and then donate them to the bake sale.  Then there are parents that actually operate the bake sale.  Either way, you’re helping the school earn money.  Parents have the opportunity to help run the magazine drive as well.  This helps by earning a lot of money that goes directly to the school’s budget.  Parents can also help out with picture day.  This makes it so that picture day is organized.  The parents there that can help if any of the students need it.  An additional volunteering job is being a part of the Parents Assistance Group.  This is a group of parents that organizes everything that the school does.  This job is a very important job.  Without it, our school might not have as many fun activities.  There is also the job of helping with the pop tabs and labels.  These parents help organize all of the pop tabs and labels.  Parents may also help out with Market Day.  This aids the school because it gets some of the money from Market Day.  Parents can also join a group called Hospitality.  This is a group that does special lunch-ins for the teachers.  There is another group called the Technology Committee that helps with the school’s technology.  This group helps with any problems that the school might have with its technology and also helps the school get new technology such as the computers.  Some parents might want the volunteer job of helping out at Bingo.  Helping out at this job, those parents get a certain amount of money off of their tuition.  An additional volunteering job is working at the Auction/Night at the Races.  These parents can make baskets or help out with their child’s class’s project.  They can even help to organize everything.  All of the money from the Auction/Night at the Races helps the school with anything it needs.  There is one last volunteer job, but for this one you don’t really have to do anything.  This is the certificate program.  This is a program where you buy certificates from the school that are to certain restaurants and stores.  When you use the certificate, you get part of the money back, so it helps with paying your tuition.

Volunteers at IHM help the school tremendously.  Because of them, our school is able to raise money so that the students can be educated better.  If you are considering becoming a volunteer, there are many different kinds of jobs to choose from, and I recommend choosing at least one.  Parent volunteers are a vital component of our school.
