The first step in making
a good web page is deciding a topic we wish to write a web page about. The
eighth grade chose their topics from a huge list of staff members, teachers,
and other special events related to our school that our computer teacher, Mr.
Hall, produced for all of the students. After all the students have chosen a
topic for their web page report, they have to gather as much information as
possible because there is a five hundred-word minimum for the eighth grade web
page reports. There is a four hundred-word minimum for all of the web page
reports that the seventh graders create. All web pages also must be in
paragraph form and not in direct quotes from students or other staff members.
In all web page reports, students must have an appropriate picture or pictures
of their subject. Students must have a textured background and a WordArt title.
After the students have proofread their work over and over again, the students
are required to turn their web page reports into the “S” drive so Mr. Hall can
grade them. Then Mr. Hall goes through each and every student’s web page and
highlights all of his or her mistakes. Most students don’t have too many
mistakes because we have experience in making web pages and because we have a
good computer teacher. After he has graded and highlighted all of the mistakes
of the students’ work, he prints out each student’s web page reports with all
of the highlighted mistakes and makes the students’ hand write each and every
mistake, since we are in groups of five or six people so it is a little bit
easier to correct their mistakes. After the group has corrected all of their
mistakes, the student’s hand their corrections to Mr. Hall so he knows the
students actually did the corrections. The students also get a grade for doing
the corrections and that is usually an easy “A.” Then the students have to go
back to their original web page and correct all of their mistakes, but Mr. Hall
lets the students use the paper with all of the highlighted mistakes that the
students have corrected in their groups for reference. Then when the students
have made all of the corrections and made their web pages perfect, they turn
their work into the “S” drive for a final grade. Then if the students’ web page
is error free and Mr. Hall approves their web page, he puts their web page on
the school web site so every body can read their work.
