These are some comments from students about what they think about our school lunches:

Samuel of Miss Ward’s eighth grade class thinks that the school’s lunches are very nutritious and they give you loads of energy.

Matthew, 4th grade, likes some of the school lunches.

Erin, 8th grade, really prefers to pack, but she enjoys some of the lunches.

Lunch at I.H.M. is a great time of day. Many students consider it to be their favorite subject. It is a time for students to take a break from classes and vanquish their ravenous hunger. During lunch we talk with our friends and eat our lunches. This is a very social time of day.

The lunches eaten by students at I.H.M. depend on the life changing decision of whether to buy or to pack their delicious lunches. Many students come to this crossroad every morning and it is up to them or their parents to make this fateful decision. The vast majority of I.H.M. students choose to pack lunch, while those select few choose to buy from the school cafeteria.

There is a large variety of foods that are packed or bought by students. Today on December second Matt packed a lunch. His lunch contains the following: a bag of Cheetos, a box of dried prunes, and a scrumptious egg salad sandwich on toasted wheat. Michael, of Mrs. Falanga’s eighth grade class, is buying a tasty, finger-licking good lunch from the school cafeteria. The lunch Mike is buying today is a lip-smacking piece of French toast along with a succulent sausage patty. His lunch will also come with dipping syrup. If he chooses he may purchase a carton of milk (chocolate or white) to quench his insatiable thirst.

When you enter the lunch room you will see a group of tables near the kitchen. These tables are the place where money or tickets are exchanged for various food items. Some people, when buying lunches from the cafeteria, choose to use a ticket. You can purchase these tickets by using an envelope that is sent home with the students. You  circle the days you would like to buy lunch according to the menu that is sent home with the ticket.  Milk tickets may also be purchased. This ticket gets you only a milk (milk automatically comes with a lunch ticket). This is another option you may choose by your own free will. During lunch time a mother helper will call buyers or people with tickets up to the cashier table. When you are called you may bring up your money or ticket. After handing your ticket or money to the cashier you must proceed on over to the steel counter where the lunch ladies will slap an awe-inspiring lunch on a Styrofoam tray. After you have received your nutritious sustenance you return to your table where you wolf it down with delight.

Students who would like to purchase something beside a delectable lunch may acquire one of the great snacks sold at I.H.M. These snacks include a bag of chips, an ice cream treat from the freezer, or a cookie-like treat. You may only obtain these items with a special green piece of paper most commonly called money.

These are some fourth grade students eating their lunch; at least they are supposed to be.
