Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in The Netherlands. He attended a boarding school for two years and then attended King Willem II secondary school for another two years. Then Van Gogh left his school at the age of 15 and never returned. In 1869 he joined a group of art dealers in The Hague. Vincent’s uncles were art dealers, so art was in his family. Van Gogh was then transferred to London by his job, where he met his true love named Caroline Haanebeek. In 1875, Vincent started teaching an art school for boys. In his spare time Van Gogh would go to art galleries or museums and read the Bible. Then he dedicated his life to the Church. In 1879 Vincent began preaching to coal miners and their families. By then, Vincent’s love for art was growing, so he drew many pictures of the miners and their families. Then came his final career, an artist. Vincent started to paint, draw, and sketch almost everything that he thought was “beautiful.” He was a great painter, yet he lacked social skills. That made Van Gogh have many mental breakdowns, and during one of them he cut of his ear. On July 20th, 1890, Van Gogh shot himself in the chest. During his lifetime, many people did not appreciate his art. It wasn’t until after his death he was considered one of the greatest painters.

Van Gogh always had side portraits made because of his “lost” ear.
