The Boats at

Argenteuil

 

Both of these prints are some of Monet’s magnificent work in Argenteuil. They are both titled The Boats at Argenteuil. Both are oil on canvas and were made around 1874.

The painting on the left is located in the basement of our school outside of the library, and the picture on the right is hanging in our school office.

This painting by Claude Monet is called La Grenouillere. Monet painted this oil on canvas masterpiece in 1869.

This painting is also found in our school office.

            Claude Monet was born on November 14th, 1840 in Paris. He is known as one of the creators of impressionism. When he was young he painted caricature portraits and displayed them in an art store. The store was owned by Eugene Boudin, and later Boudin convinced Claude to paint with him. Claude became a landscape painter. After he served in the war, Monet attended Académie Suisse, where he met Pissarro and Cezanne. Monet married Camille Doncieux in 1880. They had a son named Jean in 1868. Their second son named Michael was born in 1879. Monet had two wives and six children. He almost went blind, but had the cataract surgery. Monet died on December 5th, 1926. During his extraordinary life Monet painted many works of art, which are considered priceless today. His art was truly loved by many and still is today.
