Walsh Jesuit High School has been thought of as one of the greatest high schools in the Summit County area.  They have achieved many of their academic and athletic goals throughout the years.  Walsh Jesuit was founded in 1964, by the Walsh family.  Cornelius Walsh was a religious layman who donated money for the St. Joseph’s community to be built. When Cornelius died he left all of his money to his wife, Jane Walsh, who then decided to give all of the money to a Catholic organization.  The question was: “Which Catholic organization and where?”  Jane Walsh finally decided that she wanted to build a Catholic high school in the Cuyahoga Falls area, because that is where she had lived all of her life.  After much arguing and persuasion, the final statement was that a new all boys high school would be built on 100 acres of land on Wyoga Lake Road.  Mrs. Jane Walsh died at 89 years of age in 1963, about 24 months before the Walsh Jesuit High School opened its doors to their first freshman class of 153 boys.

This is the boys’ and girls’ softball and

baseball teams after the girls won the

State Championship 1-0.

There are many great things that are planned to happen this year at Walsh.  One of the great things that has already happened this year is both the boys and the girl’s softball and baseball teams won the State Championships.  Both of the teams’ star pitchers were chosen for the Akron Beacon Journal’s “Players of the Year.”  Lorena Floccari and Chris Gacom lead their teams to a state victory, and were featured in the Akron Beacon Journal for various reasons.   By both the girls and the boys winning state championships in the same year, this meant that Walsh Jesuit High School is the first high school in the state of Ohio to accomplish such a feat.  This was Walsh Jesuit’s 25th State Championship and 4th National Championship since they opened their doors in 1965. Walsh Jesuit provides an excellent college preparatory curriculum that enables its students to get a head start for the rest of their lives.

There have been many kids in the past that have gone to Walsh Jesuit after I.H.M.  Last year’s I.H.M. graduates that went on to Walsh Jesuit are: Jeff, Michael, Jenny, Christina, Natalie, Maria, Ann, Ashley,   Mariette, Jamie, and Jordan.  This year all of these students are freshmen, and are enjoying Walsh’s great curriculum and athletics.  Next year, Walsh can look forward to seeing: Maria, Frank, Jen, Matt, Molly, Nick, Victoria, Evan, Emily, Sam, Paul, Atif, Holly, Heather, and Mike.  All of these people believe that Walsh Jesuit High School is the best place for them to get a great education and athletically involved.

Walsh has a great motto, it’s “Men and Women for Others” describes the work ethic that Walsh gives to its students.  Walsh prepares its students for the real world.  They teach their students that after high school the world isn’t as nice.  There is nobody to protect you and you are left to fend for yourself.  Walsh prepares its graduates to help serve everyone else in the world.  These graduates are then prepared to go and work for the world, to make it a better place.

All of these kids have made the right choice, now it’s your turn.  Make the right choice; go to Walsh Jesuit High School.
