The Brownies are a little group of twenty-one first grade girls that meet after school every second and fourth Thursday of every month of the school year.  These energetic girls go to Brownies to have fun, do arts and crafts, and see their friends.  In a few years, these bright, young little girls (if they choose to continue being Brownies) will become Girl Scouts and continue their Girl Scout duties.  This is a very fun experience for all of these girls who are anxious to make friends.

The Brownies leave school at the end of the day, and they head on over to the church.  They readily begin their day at 2:30.  After they arrive and get situated, they say their Girl Scout promise.  This is a promise that every Girl Scout must say when they arrive at the after school meetings.  Then, they turn in their dues.  Dues are one dollar that the girls bring in to help pay for the supplies they use for crafts, field trips, and anything else that the Brownies might need while having fun.  After they turn in their dues, they have a small, tasty snack and a cold, refreshing drink.  Next, they do a neat, artistic craft, or they will work on earning their patches, or badges.  After they have finished doing their craft or working on earning their next badge, the Brownie leaders will then read them an intriguing short story or a fascinating small book.  When the story is over, the Brownies sadly say good-bye to each other at 4:00 as their parents come to pick them up one by one.  The Brownies will just have to wait two weeks until the next Brownie meeting.

The Brownies do a lot of exciting things while they are at Brownie meetings.  Their first field trip this year takes place on October 28, 2004.  They are planning a trip to Walsh Farms.  The Brownie leaders think that the girls will really enjoy this exciting adventure.  For now, they are just doing arts and crafts and working on earning their badges.  Their first and only craft so far (they’ve only had two meetings) is making little purses to put any notes they have for Brownies in. They are also learning their Girl Scout promise so they can say it at every meeting. There are many different badges that the Brownies can earn.  To earn the badge they usually have to do a certain task.  For example, if you wanted to earn a sewing badge you would have to probably sew a certain amount.  At this age they probably won’t be sewing, but they might do a nature walk or something similar to this.  There are very many badges though and it is hard to earn al of them.

Interviews

(These are pictures of first grade students that are in Brownies.  I interviewed each one of them.)

I interviewed a few of the Brownie girls to hear what they had to say about Brownies.  The first girl said that she really likes Brownies.  She told me that they were currently making bags to put notes in.  She also said her favorite part about Brownies is doing crafts.  The girl in the middle said that she enjoys being in Brownies.  She said that her favorite part about Brownies is playing games.  The last girl said that she also liked being in the Brownies.  Her favorite part about Brownies is reading stories.

Joining the Brownies is great chance for first grade girls.  These girls get to have a lot of fun.  They get to be with their friends and make new friends.  They get to make interesting crafts and earn badges by having fun.  Brownies also gives these girls something to do after school.  Brownies is a great opportunity for these bright, young students.
