This is the American flag.                                                                    This is the Ohio State flag.

Which our school holds                                                                       Which our flag bearers raise

                                   proudly.                                                                                              and bring down.

Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Parish proudly displays its two flags, the Ohio State flag and the United States flag.  Who puts up these very important flags every morning and brings them down at the end of every day?  This job belongs to both Miss Jaroszewski and Mrs. Staller’s fifth grade flag bearers.  These fifth graders display both courage and strength by doing this very important job every day.  Every morning during the school year a group of three or four flag bearers put both the United States flag and the Ohio State flag up for all to both see and respect.  Every day, after school they take down both of the flags. They then fold them in a very special way, called The American Style.

Mike from our eighth grade thought that being a flag bearer was a very fun and enjoying experience. It was a big contribution to the school.  Molly from the eighth grade loved being a flag bearer three years ago, but the most exiting thing when she was a flag bearer was, that she was a bearer on September the eleventh. Another thought was from Frank who is also in the eighth grade, which was; being a flag bearer was one of those things that you couldn’t help doing, it just seemed like so much fun. The duty of the flag bearers are to raise the flag every morning and take it down every afternoon on every school day. All the flag bearers put the flag up and bring it down with a wealth of respect.

The United States flag has fifty stars on it that symbolize the fifty states in America.  The fifty stars on the flag are located on a blue surface.  There are thirteen red and white stripes on the U.S. flag, six of them are white and seven are red.  They signify the first thirteen colonies.  The colors red, white, and blue represent the colors of our country.  The Ohio State flag is the only state flag that is not in the shape of a rectangle or square.  Instead it is a shape of a pentagon.  The flag has seventeen stars that stand for Ohio’s role as the seventeenth state founded in the U.S.  The stars surround a red circle that has a white border.  The Ohio flag colors are also red, white, and blue, just like our American flag.  Ohio State flag stars are on a blue background much like the American flag. On both of these flags the stripes go in a certain order, which is red, white, red, white, and so on.

These fifth graders show all the respect needed to carry these flags. They are very important to this school by carrying the Stars and Stripes. The fifth graders are very dedicated to their job. This job requires responsibility and hard work, for it is very hard to accomplish.  The fifth graders are great candidates for this wonderful role in our school.
