At 6:00 on April 2, 2004, the 6th, 7th and 8th graders reported to the Parish Community Center in costume and (most) makeup. What was the occasion? The junior high was preparing for the production of The Pirates of Penzance. They had been preparing for this for about a month. They practiced lines in Literature, and went through the music in music class. The momentum was building as 7:00 approached. Mrs. Falanga and Mrs. Olszewski did last minute makeup touches, while other 7th and 8th graders squirted lemon juice in their mouths to clear their throats. Policemen Jeff N., Sebastian S., Richard S., pirates Jen R. and Pat D., and Jane, a.k.a Christina C., filled the extra time by playing cards, and Mrs. Douglas and Sarah D. did the girls’ hair. Mrs. DePew was at the piano warming up the students, and the 6th graders were in the hallway passing out programs and acting as townspeople. (They would later join everyone in the gym to sing the chorus parts)

Before the performance began, Mrs. Nagel said a few words to begin, and a slide show, put together by Mr. Hall, was shown to acquaint the audience with the basic plot.

After the PowerPoint, the curtain opened, and a stage full of pirates was visible.

Videos of the Friday performance were available for purchase. The videos made a great keepsake of the experience.

The play was a huge success, everyone had a great time, and we are hoping to do another one next year.

Great job, junior high!
