Kindergarten through sixth grade all go to the library for a class. It might appear as though there is nothing you can do in library class except read. You are sadly mistaken. You can also check out books, take accelerated reader tests for points, and expand your vocabulary. The fifth and sixth grades take accelerated reader  tests which are used for grades.

For accelerated reader, there are separate books for each grade to read. Each person has to get a certain amount of points per quarter. You get these points by first, reading the book. When you have finished reading it, you go on the computer in the library, find the title of your book, and then you take the quiz on the book. Each book has a certain amount of points depending on how hard or easy the book is to read. If you miss any questions on the quiz, you also lose the opportunity for some accelerated reader points. When you are done, you can keep reading accelerated reader books, and taking more quizea, until you have the amount of points you need.

There are numerous types of books you can check out including; fiction, nonfiction, reference books, accelerated readers, easy read books, books to read for your enjoyment, and there are also videos. Checking out a book is a very simple thing to do: first just pick out a book that is interesting to you, then, all you have to do is take it to the librarian and she will check it out for you. Then you can keep it to read until it is due.

Mrs. Rosen is currently the librarian at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Parish library. There are approximately eight to nine thousand books in this library. Out of all of these many books, the I SPY, Guinness Book of World Records, and Harry Potter are some of the favorites. There are a few special events involving the library coming up soon. The book fair is the week before Thanksgiving. Children’s book week is also coming up soon after that. Amazingly, twenty parents are there to help every week. All in all the library is a place where you can relax and read a good book.
