Hello my name is Janet and I am a new student at I.H.M. I moved to Akron from Cleveland, before I came to I.H.M. I went to Urban Community School, which is on the west side of Cleveland. I.H.M. is very different from my old school; here I take computer and Spanish which I have never taken before. My teachers in those subjects are Mr. Hall and Ms. Owen. This school is harder then my old one, my parents told me I should be at a challenging school. Most people at this school like punk rock, not me I am more of a rap and R&B, hip hop person. There are some wonderful things about this school: the teachers here are really nice, the students are too; the classes are just really hard for me. It feels like everyone is pressuring me to do really well and not letting me have any free time to relax and get myself together. I.H.M. has made a huge impression on my life, even though I’ve only been here a short time. I appreciate the things they’ve taught me and I’ll learn to like it here. To see how other new students like myself, I asked

them how they liked it here.

Bridgette W., a fourth grader, writes that she went to Annunciation St. John last year, and she moved so her parents decided to send her here. She says she really likes it here and there is nothing that she’d really like to change about this school. She thinks that all her teachers are nice, but her favorite would have to be Mrs. Azzaro and her favorite subject is science. Bridgette is an only child but has a lot of friends at I.H.M. to keep her company. Although she still misses her old friends, she enjoys hanging out with her new ones and playing outside. After school she likes to relax, do her homework and watch T.V. (Her favorite show is Sister Sister on the Disney channel.) or listen to the radio. (Her favorite radio station is 94.9WQMX.)

Alexander T., a third grader at I.H.M., who went to Woodridge, last year, says that his mom made him came here because it was a better school. He has made some friends at I.H.M., his favorite subject is spelling and his favorite teacher is Mrs. Young. Alex has a brother that goes to this school.  His name is Carson. He likes it here but thinks we have too much homework. He misses his old school when he thinks of his friends.  After school he likes to play basketball, watch T.V. (Spongebob) and listen to the radio. (What normal kid wouldn’t?)

Carson T., Alexander’s little brother, who also went to Woodridge, likes it at I.H.M. He says his favorite teacher is Mrs. Kisela. He wanted to come to this school because you get out of school earlier. His favorite subject is gym and after school he likes to play games. Sometimes he wishes he was at his old school but he likes it here. His favorite T.V. show is Spongebob, and he likes to listen to ‘Open Your Doors To A New Dimension of Faith’

Victoria G. is in 5B.  She went to Our Lady of the Elms, she likes it here. She also likes all her teachers very much and has made many friends at I.H.M. her favorite subject are math, science, or social studies.  Some times she wishes she was at her old school but, she try’s to make the best of it here. She is not involved in any after school activities yet but wants to be. After school she likes to play sports, listen to the radio (favorite stations 104.1, 101.1, 165.5, 89.1, 96.5, 98.1) and watch T.V. (favorite show is Yu-Gi-Oh!) She didn’t move here but just transferred.

Sarah F. came to I.H.M. from Dewit Elementary, she likes I.H.M. and all her teachers, but she thinks the dress code is a little too much. She has made some friends; Jackie, Lauren, Tara, Erin, basically almost everyone. Unlike me Sarah isn’t new to this area, she just decided to come here this year. Her favorite subject is science. She is not involved in any after school activities, but when she gets home she likes to draw and listen to music. Her favorite T.V. show is “That’s So Raven” and her favorite radio station is 95.5.

Erin R., one of Sarah’s new friends, is also new here. Erin went to The Elms last year. She, like most of the other new students, likes it at I.H.M. too. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Young. she has many new friends here; unlike the other new students she doesn’t really miss her old school. She didn’t move to this area either, she just came to this school because it was closer to her house. Her favorite subject is reading, and she is a Girl Scout. Erin’s favorite T.V. show is Spongebob, and her favorite radio station is 95.5.

Nancy D. who, by me, is believed to be the sister of Dayna D. came to this school from Munroe Elementary says she likes it very much here and has made a lot of friends. She didn’t move here and I’m not exactly sure why she came to this school. Her favorite subjects are reading and math. She misses her old school sometimes. After school she likes to ride her bike, go on her trampoline, and watch T.V. Her favorite shows are “7th Heaven” and “Hang Time”.

Atif F., a 7th grader, went to Incarnate Word Academy, he has made a lot of friends and enjoys being at I.H.M. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Falanga and his favorite subject is math. Like me, Atif also moved here. He doesn’t have any brothers or sisters at this school. After school he likes to play outside and watch T.V. his favorite T.V. show is “The Fresh Prince of Belair”.
