Jack H. and Simone D. Gabby K. and Luke
L.
I have talked to a few of our second graders
and asked them each the same 3 questions.
They all gave different answers. Question number one was “What have you
learned about the First Eucharist?”
“That you have to fold your hands when you’re walking,” said Jack
H. “We talked to the priests,” said
Simone. “That you’re supposed to confess
your sins, and that the bread and wine is Jesus’ body and blood,” said
Luke. “That you don’t tell your sins to
anyone but the priest, and that the bread and wine is the body and blood,” said
Gabby. The second question was “What
does First Communion mean to you?” “It
makes me feel happy,” said Simone. “It
means Jesus, God, and my mom and dad,” said Luke. “It means Jesus,” said Gabby. My final question was “Are you excited to
receive your First Communion and why?”
“Yes, I am excited because it will be fun,” said Simone. “Yes, because I’ll have a better happier
life,” said Luke and Gabby.
I also talked to the two
second grade teachers, Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Kisela. The first question I asked them was “What
have you been teaching the second graders about First Communion?” My next question was “How have the second
graders responded to your teachings?” My
final questions to the teachers was “Do you think the second graders are ready
to receive their First Communion?” When
I talked to Mrs. Kisela she said that they are not preparing for the Eucharist
yet but First Reconciliation. She said that they are ready to make their First
Reconciliation but not their First Communion because they haven’t really
focused on it. She said they will focus
on the Eucharist after Reconciliation.
When I talked to Mrs. Jacobs she said she has told them about the
importance on receiving the body and blood.
She said she will be teaching them the steps of the mass. She said the students were like sponges. They love to learn about Jesus. She also said that they ask a lot of
questions. She said that yes they will
be ready.
