The sixth
graders took part in a creative writing contest. The contest was sponsored by
the Parks and Rec. Department. Mrs. Hardesty entered us in this contest. The
sixth graders had to write a Halloween poem. There were seven winners. There
were three honorable mentions. People who received honorable were Dylan I,
Elizabeth B, and Rachel D. Although getting an honorable mention is great,
sixth graders still got higher honors. There was one third place winner, one
second place winner, one third place winner, and one grand prize winner. Our
third place winner was Alex C. Our second place winner was Jake C. Our first place
winner was Angela J. Our grand prize winner was Kristin H. All of these contestants deserve
congratulations for their hard work. Here are Kristin H’s and Angela J’s poems.
Halloween
Halloween time is very frightful
But we get candy which is so delightful.
I like to get lots of candy,
If you have a bag it will be very handy.
There are ghosts and goblins and witches too,
I am a warewolf, what are you?
If you are a girl you could be a fairy,
If you are a boy you could be a gorilla
that’s hairy.
I like to go trick-or-treating around my
house,
To scare my friends I showed them a dead
mouse.
I wait for Halloween all year long,
I always keep my candy, is that so wrong?

Halloween
Halloween time is very frightful
All the costumes are a sightful
Goblins, and ghosts, and witches galore,
None of the costumes are a bore
Some things are scary, like haunted houses
Inside there are spiders and little mouses
There is also trick-or –treating
But the best thing about is the eating
Going down into my tummy
All of the candy is very yummy
