What is Confirmation?

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the third step in the process of initiation into Christian life and community. Confirmation is a sacrament of the Holy Spirit, who comes with new power. It is linked with Baptism and the Eucharist. This sacrament celebrates the power of the Holy spirit in the life of the people being initiated and in the life of the welcoming family. The spirit and the gifts are operating from the moment of baptism. We achieve this through our own faith and actions, it’s not something done to you or something you earn.

What are the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit?

When we are confirmed we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are courage, wisdom, knowledge, right judgment, wonder and awe, and understanding. Courage combines bravery and endurance, it also helps us face danger and stand up for what we know is right. Wisdom is the ability to know with the heart and ability to make complex things simple enough for a child to understand. Knowledge helps us to distinguish between truth and falsehood. Right Judgement refers to the ability to look at a situation and discern the correct decision to make. Reverence, also known as piety, is a deep sense of love that guides us to ways to please God. Wonder and Awe, or fear of the Lord, is to be able to see how powerful and holy God truly is.
