Mrs. Depew piano
Mrs. Depew has
been at are school for a long time, longer than I can remember at least. She has taught many kids many things about
music, from notes, to composers, to just how to sing. Many kids here at IHM feel very close to Mrs.
Depew because most of them canter for her, or sometime in the past have
cantered for her. When you canter for Mrs.
Depew you have to go to her room during recess and practice for the week so
that in church you sound good.
Now that 8th grade has
finished music class for the year Mrs. Depew has eight classes. In all of her classes she is teaching many
different things. In Mrs. Depew’s
kindergarten class they are just doing the basic fundamentals of music. They are learning how to identify sections of
music that have different tone colors.
They are also learning how to identify music form through the use of
movement and they are practicing music for there end of the year program when
they go from kindergarten to 1st grade. 1st grade is practicing
identifying same and different. They are
also learning on how to get louder and softer and they are practicing on how to
read rhythms and pitches. Mrs. Depew’s 2nd
grade class is learning how to listen and identify rhythm patterns by sight and
sound and how to identify rondo as a form of composition that has a recurring
section. The 3rd graders are
practicing writing rhythm. They are also
tapping and counting rhythm patterns off the overhead. The 3rd graders are learning about
J.S Bach through a story called “Mr. Bach Comes to Call”. Mrs. Depew’s 4th graders are
probably learning the most advanced stuff out of grades k-4. They are learning how to play short simple
songs on the recorders using three notes, G, A, and B. They are also learning how to identify notes
names on the staff and they are learning how to identify note values and tap
and count rhythm patterns. The kids in
Mrs. Depew’s music class are going to learn many things so that when they leave
IHM they can use what she has taught them to there benefit.
