The Play
The 8th graders, along with the 6th and 7th
graders, performed a play. The play was called
“The Pirates of Penzance.” The first
performance was on April 1st, for the school, and the second was on
April 2nd for the parents, in the I.H.M. gym.

Lead Roles: Mabel: Maria B. Ruth: Sergeant: Richard S. Major General: Pirate King: Jordan W. Samuel: Shane C. |
The rest of the 8th graders were pirates, police, or
daughters. All the 7th grade
boys were pirates, and the 7th grade girls were daughters of the
Major General. The play was a big
success.

On June 7th, the 8th
Grade is taking a field trip to Cedar Point.
They’ll be there all day. The
next day, they’ll have a picnic at school.
June 9th will be the graduation Mass for grades 1-7.

Most 8th graders are, no doubt, disappointed to see their
last year at I.H.M. end. Some are
relieved. As you can imagine, there were many great times at this school. These are some of the 8th Grade’s
favorite:
Alison D. and Maria B.: “It’s all Shane’s fault!”
Colleen L.: “When me and Gina used to pretend we were witches.”
Mike L: “When we got in trouble for those pen guns in 6th
grade.”
Mariette P.:
“All the field trips with our class, ‘cause our class
is awesome!”
Sebastian S.: “When we stole Anne’s hamster.”
Hilary P.: “Going to the Apple Orchard.”
Jordan W.: “When [Mrs.] Bahmer thought that

“Be
Positive” Campaign
The 8th Grade is
also in their last phase of their “Be Positive” Campaign. This last theme is “Respecting the
Environment,” which goes along with the last two phases: “Respect Adults,” and
“Respecting Yourself.” These seemed to
be the hardest phases to complete, especially for the older kids. For “Respecting Adults and Yourself,”
a chart was sent home to be filled out by the parents, so that way the kids
have a better chance of earning their stickers.
What
8th Grade Learned This Year
In Math class, taught
by Mrs. Garduno, we’ve covered about 8 Chapters of work. Most people are on their 3rd
notebook. One thing we do in math is take something called a Math Minute. A
Math Minute quiz is a 10 question quiz in which we have one minute to complete.
We’ve also learned reciprocals, properties, ratios, proportions, restrictions,
percents, scientific notation, expanded form, solving equations with variables,
geometry and such. We’ve had to do
reports on famous Mathematicians, along with tests and quizzes.
In Social Studies class, taught by Mrs. Bahmer, we’ve learned about
Presidents, state flags, court systems, The Declaration of Independence,
slavery, the Constitution, Revolutions, The Bill of Rights, Amendments, and
geography.
In English class, taught by Mrs. Garduno, we do a couple different
things. Two things we did were writing
in journals, and proofreading sentences (i.e.: Me and
Sally went two the Marrket on Sunday”).
We’ve gone over things such as: diagramming, poetry (cinquains,
free verse, haiku, clerihew, limericks),
indirect/direct objects, pronouns, nouns, and adjectives are just a few of the
things we’ve covered this year. Spelling
also goes along with English.
In Science class, taught by Mrs. Falanga, we’ve done many things.
We’ve done the Reproductive System, the Endocrine System, the Digestive System,
mitosis, meiosis, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA), genetics, Punett
Squares, asexual and sexual reproduction, and many other things. We’ve made DNA ladders out of candy (marsh mellows,
gummy bears, twizzlers,and
other things.), toothpicks, and pipe cleaners.
They were made in class, and displayed on a table set up.
In Literature class, taught by Miss Ward, we have just finished up
reading Macbeth. We had a vocabulary book, and had tests about every Tuesday on
the words of the week’s section. Each
week, we have to read a total of 90 minutes. We’ve also given an impromptu
persuasive writing on a current book we were reading, or have read recently. We’ve also done Power Point book reports
In Religion class, which is taught by Mrs. Falanga, we prepared for
Confirmation. The first thing we did was
read about it. We took quizzes and tests
to prepare for the actual day. We learned about the Gifts and the Fruits of the
Holy Spirit, exorcism, the Knights of Columbus, Apostolic and Ecclesial
Traditions, journaling, chrism, what the colors of the priest’s robes symbolize
in Mass, and started the “Be Positive” Campaign!
