Grade
Second Grade is one of the busiest
grades in the school. All year they prepare for two major sacraments in the
Catholic religion: the First Holy Reconciliation and the First Holy Eucharist.
On February 21, the second grade class will make their First Holy
Reconciliation. For preparation, the second grade practices the Act of
Contrition, they act out confessions, and they make art work about receiving a
new heart. The teachers think that the kids are completely ready for this
sacrament. Preparing for Reconciliation is only adding on to what they know
about God and their religion. The second graders say that they are very excited
for this sacrament. About every few months, every one from third grade and up
is required to go to Confession in school, and in February, the second graders
will attend with us.
Last month in December, the second grade went on a field trip to the
Seiberling Nature Realm. At the nature realm, they went on hikes, learned about
where the animals live and how they make their habitats, and they pet a snake.
Emily and Chloe K. said the nature realm was a lot of fun. In the next few
months, the kids will be going on a field trip to Schwebels Bakery. They said
they are excited to go to Schwebels because they get free bread.

In April, the second graders will be
working on an animal habitat poster. They have been studying animals for a
while. On December 10, Mrs. Machuga came in and talked to the second grade
about animal footprints. Other projects the second grade is working on is
making paper Mache models of the sun, moon, and the earth. The paper Mache is
for learning about the solar system.
Right now, the second grade is doing snowman projects and crafts,
learning how to tell time, tooth care and hygiene, and cursive writing.
Chloe K. and Emily K. said their favorite teacher is Mrs. Jacobs. They
said that she is their favorite teacher because she is nice and a very good
teacher.
As you can definitely tell, the second graders are very busy, maybe
even the busiest in the school!
